It seems that every year around the first week of October, we end up with a few great musky trips. This year has proven to be no exception. Tonight, after several follows and two 40"+ fish being caught, a few historic stat marks have been passed.

MMII now leads all boats in total points with 120, passing MM(99) and becoming the first boat to hit the 100 point mark in the history of the musky hunters. MMII currently boasts not only the most points, not only the most musky, but also the highest average length per musky. Certainly an impressive feat. MMII also now has the honor of landing a legal musky, a feat previously matched only by MM.

The two beyond 40 have helped my overall average length after the several sub 30 last year, and pushed my all time total length of catches just beyond the 50' mark.

For the season, MMII has amassed 7 fish with an average length of 39.14". After reaching the century mark in points all time, MMII also sits at 92 points this season alone, with a very high likelihood of being the only boat to reach the century mark in a single season.

Stay tuned, things are just starting to warm up!

The final cast will forever be etched in slow motion in our minds. The initial splash of the popper, followed by a few twitches, and a kaleidoscoope of sounds, did not fortify us for what was soon to come. The bite .... the hook set .... the scream of the reel ... smilli yelling "Ya got one??"

Another year in the books. :: 01/01/04 :: posted by
While I had contemplated trying to sneak in another trip and capture the musky lead at the last minute of the season, I never did get around to doing it.

This years winner in overall points with 58, pat. From his last minute single fish season in `02, he went on to catch 5 fish in `03, including the two biggest of the year. His season average of 37.6 bested all other angler records for a season by over an inch. That average also bested all other anglers biggest catches for the 2003 year.

My 6 fish 36.83 average stats of `02 were no where to be found in `03. I ended `03 with 7 fish, averaging a dismal 32.07 leading to 40 points overall. My largest fish was 37", and nothing else came close to it for the rest of the season.

Smilli managed only one fish early in the season, but in his defense he didnt really put in the time this year that he did in 2002. The fish he did catch, was one for the record books. Unfortunately, it was for a record I dont want to ever hold! Smallest musky ever, 24".

So, we have some new records(and some old ones still lingering):

Longest musky: 42 (smilli 2002)
Most points in a single season: 65 (spieg 2002)
Single season average length: 37.6 (pat 2003)
Shortest musky: 24 (smilli 2003)
Most fish caught in a single season: 7 (spieg 2003)
Overall length in a single season: 224.50 (spieg 2003)

The alltime stats have seen some moves this year too. With pat's success this year, he has moved up into 2nd overall, jumping 27 points ahead of smilli. Im still holding on to the overall lead for now though, and I dont intend on letting it go without a fight.
